GOALS - Reduce wagon body roll, maintain bump travel, trade a little comfort for better feel at the limit of grip.
I started by trying to copy what the factory did on the Sti, cause that car was right. I loved the idea of inverted struts but alas, could not afford. That, plus my goal of keeping it capable offroad made the DSpec's pretty attactive. Especially when they went on sale for $500! Here are the various strokes for the different shocks.
04 Sti | Wrx Wag | Dspec | Feal Insert | |
Stroke | 5.75"/7.75" | 6.1"/7.48" | 6.65"/9.2" | 6.7"/8.67" |
Spring Rate | 224/195 | 163/132 |
Using Dspecs allowed for the use of reliable factory group n top hats. This is great because I hate squeeky bushings and clunky struts. Theres no reason a strut should ever clunk, especially in an engineer's car. The hurdle with Dspec struts is that they have spring seats for the large diameter factory springs. I want to keep the car at factory ride height, or even go higher to keep the bump travel. I hate slowing down for speedbumps and I tend to speed up for railroad tracks in hopes of taking flight >:).
