Flexitarian

Nine billion land animals are killed every year because of U.S. Animal Agriculture, not to mention the effects that meat production has on the environment such as pollution due to burning of fossil fuels as well as water and land consumption. This post revolves around a flexitarian diet, which is mostly plant based with the occasional inclusion of meat, for those of us who are not ready to give up the cheeseburgers. Here are some steps to help you cut back on your meat consumption!

1. Meatless Monday’s: Choose one or two days out of the week where you don’t eat meat at all.

2. Meat-Free Alternatives: Some protein packed substitutions for meat include tofu, seitan, beans, lentils, seeds & nuts.

3. Get Vegucated: Instead of making meat the center of your dinner, choose your favorite veggies and make them the main course, cutting your meat serving in half.

4. Eliminate processed meats: These are the worst types of meats for you. Pick the organic farm raised chicken over the chicken nuggets. Your body will thank you.

5. Protein Power: When cutting back on meat it is important to make sure you are still getting enough protein, iron, and calcium in your diet. You can do this by taking natural supplements or make sure you are using those protein packed alternatives I mentioned in step 2.
