Freediving- How To Get Started!

At the beginning of this year I discovered the wonders of freediving, which allows you to enjoy the peace of the underwater world on just one breath. With every new challenge you start it’s important to be prepared. Here are some tips to help get you started!

1. Relax: This is key when you’re diving. You are training your body to conserve oxygen. Deep and slow breaths will help lower your heart rate and avoid tense muscles which use a lot of oxygen and energy. Meditation and deep breathing techniques can help you with this.

2. Dive Buddy: Always dive with a buddy. The buddy system is crucial when diving so that you can watch over each other, learn from each other, and share the amazing experience.

3. Dive Gear: You don’t need to have the most expensive gear, but you do want to be comfortable. Some items you will need include a snorkel, mask, fins, weight belt, dive knife (Best Dive Knife Setup) and wetsuit, depending on the temperature of the water you’re diving.

4. Free-diver course: I haven’t had the opportunity to do this yet but it is at the top of my list as soon as I can. Benefits of a freediving course include an introduction to the basic elements of the sport, a longer breath hold, and the safety aspect which is indispensable.

5. Be aware of your environment and protect it: Pay attention to your surroundings and most importantly respect the life forms that inhabit it. Be an advocate for the ocean and educate others!

As always, I would love to hear your feed back in the comment section below. We only have one chance to keep our oceans thriving so what better way than to jump in and explore its beauty, join beach clean-ups, and educate others. Let’s keep our planet healthy! 🙂

  1. Dope!!! Freediving without you wouldn’t feel right, so having a dive buddy you can trust is the most important to me ?
