Natural Remedies for Anxiety

Anxiety can affect people of all ages and is a normal response to stress. However, it can contribute to chronic disease and a decline in overall health even when it is treated with conventional medication which can be habit-forming and have adverse side-effects. The purpose of this post is to introduce some natural remedies and some methods that everyone can use daily to ease some of the symptoms of anxiety and to keep yourself feeling like the amazing gem that you are!

START WITH A WELL BALANCED DIET:  Studies show that a poor diet can lead to anxiety symptoms such as fatigue, moodiness, and abnormal blood sugar levels. Foods to avoid are sugary or processed foods that have a high glycemic index and can give you high or low blood sugar levels throughout the day which alter energy levels and mood. Foods to incorporate into your diet are anti-inflammatory foods, magnesium rich foods, and healthy fats.

Some examples are:

· Leafy greens

· Fresh fruits and vegetables

·  Avocado, coconut oil and olive oil

· Sea vegetables

·  Eggs

· Yogurt

GET A GOOD NIGHT’S REST: From experience when I don’t get enough sleep I feel off and am not as productive as I like to be. This is why I aim to get 7-9 hours of sleep a night as often as possible. Studies have shown that restoring proper sleep patterns reduces stress and balances hormones. Essential oils work great to induce relaxation, some of my favorites to use in my room before bed are lavender and eucalyptus.

EXERCISE: Staying active will improve energy levels, sleep quality, and leave you feeling more confident. Some of my favorite activities, that don’t require a gym membership, are hiking or biking which allows me to connect with nature and yoga which promotes relaxation and breathing techniques. (I usually find some fun yoga videos on YouTube that I can practice in my living room!)

NATURAL SUPPLEMENTS: Some alternatives to anxiety medications that you will be able to find in most vitamin stores are:

· Ashwagandha: a powerful herb that is not only a stress reliever but also protects the brain from degeneration.

· 5- HTTP: increases Serotonin and can help with many issues related to anxiety such as trouble sleeping, moodiness, and headaches.

· Magnesium: helps to relax muscles and calm the nervous system.

· Vitamin B Complex: (B6 and B12) combats stress and stabilizes mood.

These are just a few simple methods I incorporate into my routine to promote overall wellness and that have also been proven to decrease anxiety. I would love to hear any feedback of what works or doesn’t work for you in the comment section below!

Hope everyone is staying healthy and happy.✌?
